Questions
The answers, before you ask.
What buyers want to know before a rug of this value leaves İstanbul, in one place. Anything not here, write to us — a person reads it.
The rugs
Where are the rugs woven?
In northern Afghanistan, by Turkmen families, from drawings passed down within them. Each piece is then chosen in İstanbul, where it is measured, photographed and documented before it is listed. Origin is stated on every piece page, from where the rug was actually woven, and never inferred from a name.
What does one of one mean here?
The rug in the photographs is the rug that arrives, with its own reference, its own measurements and its own irregularities. The drawing is older and is shared — a piece carrying it may have been woven at another size. Ask, and we will say what there is.
Will the colour be exactly what I see in the photographs?
Close, and never quite even. Hand-dyed wool shifts a little across a field rather than holding one flat tone, and where the dye is a natural one that shift has a name — abrash. It is evidence of how the colour was made rather than a fault in it. Every piece page names its dye and says what that dye does, so you can read what you are looking at.
Are the rugs antique?
No. The drawings are old; the rugs are new work, and the export paperwork says so at the border. We do not attribute a piece to a named hand and we do not sell age — what is written on a piece's page is the whole of what we claim about it.
What travels with the rug?
Its export documentation, including the attestation that it is new work, and its record: the reference, the specification, the photographs and the price, kept as they stood on the day you bought it. The reference has a permanent address on this site, so the record can be found again years later.
Buying
Is the price I see the price I pay?
Yes. The figure on the page is the figure charged, in the currency of the country you are reading from, with carriage, import duty and tax already inside it. Nothing is collected at your door and no customs bill follows.
How do I pay?
By card at checkout, or with the wallets and payment services your device offers there. Payment is taken by Stripe on its own page; your card details never reach us.
Can I buy more than one rug at once?
Yes — up to six pieces go through one checkout and one payment. Each keeps its own reference and its own order number, one confirmation lists them all, and each is documented and shipped as the piece it is.
Does the cart reserve a rug for me?
The cart is a list, and nothing is set aside at any point: every piece stays for sale to everyone until it is paid for. The moment your payment goes through, it is yours.
Do I need an account to buy?
No. Checkout works without one, as it always has. An account keeps your later orders with their tracking and the pieces you have set aside, and it opens with an email address or with Google.
How do I choose the right size?
Measure the seating group rather than the room — a rug wants at least the front feet of the seating standing on it. Every piece is listed at its exact size, in the system you measure in, so you can hold those figures against the floor you have. Under a dining table, allow for the chairs drawn back; beside a bed, let the rug run out where feet actually land.
Carriage and returns
When does it leave, and when does it arrive?
It is dispatched from İstanbul within one to two business days of your order and travels by air courier — at your door within three to five days of dispatch, customs permitting. We write with the carrier and the tracking number on the day it leaves.
Will I pay duty or tax when it arrives?
No. Carriage, import duty and tax are settled by us before the piece travels, and the paperwork names the sender as the importer. What you paid at checkout is the whole of it.
Does somebody need to sign for it?
Yes. Every rug is sent signature-required, and at these values we will not authorise a courier to leave one unattended. If nobody can be there, tell us and we hold the dispatch for a day that suits.
Can I send it back?
Fourteen days from delivery. No reason is required and none will be asked for. Write to us and we book the collection with the same courier; return carriage is at your cost, and the refund goes to the card you paid with, in full, once the piece is back with us.
How long does the refund take to show?
We issue it once the piece is back with us, and banks typically take five to ten working days to show it on the card. If you change your mind before the rug has left İstanbul, tell us the same day and the refund is issued at once.
What if it arrives with a fault?
Write to us with a photograph and we put it right — a full refund with the collection booked, or an allowance agreed for a fault we should have caught, in which case the rug stays yours. Each rug is one object, so there is never an identical one to send in its place.
Custom rugs and trade
What if nothing listed fits the room?
A rug can be made. Tell us the room, the size and what it has to live with, and we will say what is possible and what it would cost before anything is begun. A commissioned piece is made for you and cannot be returned.
How does a commission work?
You send a brief from the custom rug page — the drawing you have in mind, the colours and the measurements. A person reads it and replies in writing with what is possible and the price, and nothing is begun until you have agreed both.
Is there a trade programme?
Yes, for architects, interior designers and studios. Apply from the trade page; every application is read by hand, and what we can offer a practice is set out in writing. An approved practice signs in and asks about any piece.
Your account
What does an account do?
It keeps the orders you place while signed in, each with its tracking, and the pieces you have set aside. You open it with an email address you confirm, or with Google, and it is never needed to buy.
Will I see the orders I placed before I had an account?
An account starts empty and fills as you buy. Earlier orders stay with the confirmation email they were sent to — write to us from that address and we answer any question about them.
Does keeping a piece reserve it?
A kept piece is a bookmark and nothing more: it stays for sale to anyone until it is bought, and the list is yours alone. Up to fifty pieces can be kept, and a list made before you sign in comes with you the first time you open the saved page signed in.
How do I delete my account?
Write to us from the address on the account and we remove it, with everything that names you. The privacy page sets out what is kept of a completed sale and for how long.
